Dr. Wayne P. Spychala, Principal

Mr. David Uhrig, Assistant Principal

We are asking that parents, students and visitors follow these procedures:

ITEMS/MESSAGES TO BE DELIVERED TO STUDENTS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY
Classes will not be interrupted for personal messages or deliveries. Any item or message that needs to be delivered to a student during the school day will only be done during 8:06 morning announcements, the appropriate lunch (7th graders: 10:30 - 11:00; 6th graders: 11:18 - 11:48; 8th graders:12:06 - 12:36) or at the 3:00 bell. Field trip permission slips need to be turned in to the appropriate teacher on the designated date. Permission slips will not be received by fax.

TELEPHONES
Two pay telephones are available for student use. They are located at the main entrance and at the back entrance near the large gym. Please be sure your student has 50 cents (80 cents to make a call to a cellular phone) with them each day in case they need to make a phone call. OFFICE TELEPHONES ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR STUDENT USE.

ATTENDANCE/ EARLY DISMISSAL/ HOMEWORK
When your student is absent, needs to be released early or is coming to school late please call the Attendance Line at 682-2290 BEFORE 8:00 am or send a note with your child to the Attendance Office BEFORE school starts. The student will then receive a pass to give to his/her teacher indicating the appropriate dismissal time.  For those students leaving the building, the person picking the student up MUST sign him/her out at the Attendance Office and may be asked for a form of identification. Please do not leave attendance or early dismissal messages on the main office voice mail.

HOMEWORK
Homework may be requested through the Attendance Office on the THIRD DAY OF ABSENCE. Please call before 9:00 am so teachers have time to prepare your request. At ANY time, the SCHOOL ACCESS/HOMEWORK LINE (963-1264) may be used to access information regarding school activities and daily homework assignments.  Some of the features of this line are:  it can be called daily to get homework assignments for specific teams, sporting event cancellations and changes can be accessed directly, school closings are reported on the emergency line; and weekly and monthly schedules are listed to keep you informed of special events.  The School Access Line, in conjunction with our monthly newsletter, keeps parents and students up-to-date with current and future activities.

VISITORS
All visitors MUST check into the main office before going elsewhere in the building. A District 200 Visitor badge will be given out to each visitor.

PARKING LOT PROCEDURES

There are about 900 students enrolled at Monroe and almost 700 of them use bus transportation to arrive and depart daily.   Add to the mix many private vehicles and the traffic situation can be hectic and stressful.   Fortunately, we do have the benefit of using the neighboring Fairgrounds’ parking lot for additional vehicle needs.

Many parents elect to transport their student after school.   They utilize Monroe’s parking area but in a manner that can be inconvenient for the school.   It is important that access throughout the parking lot is maintained from 7:00 AM to 4:15 PM.   Many parents who transport students after school park in the traffic lanes in the parking lot.   This strategy is convenient for picking up students quickly but disruptive for normal school operations.  There are many parents who need to pick up a student for an appointment or meet with school personnel and must be able to access the lot for parking.   There are spaces in the front of the lot that are designated for that purpose, yet they are not accessible due to waiting vehicles.

We are asking parents to please observe safe and helpful strategies in the parking lot.   The buses that exit the school at about 3:10 PM must be given priority.  Private vehicles must wait for the buses to exit before accessing the road west of the parking lot.   Do not use the bus lanes between 2:30 and 3:15 PM so the buses can fully access the lanes.   Please do not park in the traffic lanes in the parking lot for student pick up after school.   There are many parking spaces available in the back row of the parking lot as well as the park district lot on the east side.   Also, parents can use the Fairground parking lot for picking up students without disrupting exiting bus and normal parking lot traffic.   As always, please observe safe traffic behavior before and after school in all areas especially if you elect to use the Fairgrounds.

Also, when using the bus lanes in the morning or after school, please keep the designated cross walk open while yielding to pedestrians; and always be aware of pedestrians walking between cars in the parking lot.

Your cooperation and adherence to these procedures is greatly appreciated.
