Welcome to "Get to Know Your Teacher"!
For the past ten years, our highly trained investigative reporter has been
assembling a plethora of information concerning your 8th grade teachers.
Unfortunately much of what he discovered was accidentally destroyed when he
mistakenly tried to use a paper shredder as a copy machine.
Luckily, some of the information escaped the shredder for one reason or another and we proudly present the surviving details for your use. Simply click on the image of the teacher you'd like to learn more about!
Hi! I'm Mr. Hladilek. Thanks for choosing to learn more about me! I'm a graduate from the University of Illinois at Chicago Circle. I attended Thornridge High School where I played baseball, football and was a member of the not so legendary rock group Potato Famine. My hobbies are sports and computer and I enjoy going to movies and the theater. My favorite food is crab legs, my favorite bands at the moment are the Beatles, U2 and Incubus, and among my heroes are John F. Kennedy, Ghandi, and the Beatles. When I grow up I want to be an astronaut. I've taught social studies, language arts and EFC here and I've been at Monroe since it's re-opening in 1990. I enjoy coaching and this year I will be the 8th grade "A" team boys basketball coach and the 8th grade girls "B" team basketball coach. I also co-direct the Monroe talent show which is always great fun! I'm looking forward to another great year at Monroe with our new 8th graders.
Hello all! My name is Mrs. Duncan and I'm also a language arts teacher on the Stripes Team. I'm the only teacher on the team who has taught both 6th and 8th graders here at Monroe. I've taught social studies, language arts and EFC but my favorite teaching assignment is Language Arts. I especially enjoy reading and believe that an educated person is a well read person. One of my favorite units to teach is the Personal Brochure. It gives students a chance to work with word processing and word publishing, and it helps me to know more about my students and their lives outside of school. Another high interest project that students and I both enjoy is a PowerPoint presentation using their genre choice, science fiction or fantasy. I'm always amazed at the kinds of projects students are able to create. I've also enjoyed another side of Monroe school life as the sponsor of chess Club since it began at Monroe. I'm proud to say that students from every grade and ability level participate for fun and competition most of the year, and eventually are invited to compete in the annual all school chess tournament. It's always tons of fun. I'm looking forward to another great year, excited about what adventures lie ahead for us.
I'm so happy you picked me to learn more about! My name is Ms. McCarthy and I've been a member of the 8th grade team since it's beginning. I'm responsible for helping students in a variety of classes. In fact, I can be found in math, science, social studies and language arts classes in the 8th grade. I wear many hats. I enjoy working with students, especially when they work hard to accomplish the goals they set. Just as the other Stripes Team teachers, I too am looking forward to the upcoming year. There are challenges for us all and I'm anxious to see how we work together to succeed.
